“Federal deputy Marcel Van Hattem (Novo-RS) made controversial statements this Wednesday (27), directed at President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Alexandre de Moraes and the Supreme Federal Court (STF). In the plenary session of the Chamber, the deputy referred to the two men as “cruel” and “cowards” and called the institution “mafia”.
“Lula is cruel. Alexandre de Moraes is cruel. Lula and Alexandre de Moraes are cowards. In fact, I’ll say more, what they’re doing at the STF today is a mafia thing. And it’s not just Alexandre de Moraes. The mafia depends on an organization and the organization that is at the STF today is mafia, even putting the knife to the throats of several other people,” said Marcel.
One of the authoritarian actions of the Brazil judiciary as its democracy slips away.
“Justice Kassio Nunes Marques, of the Federal Supreme Court
(STF ), interrupted the trial of the appeal filed by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR ) against the decision of Justice Dias Toffoli that annulled all procedural acts of Lava-Jato against the former Minister of Finance and Chief of Staff, Antonio Palocci, in February of this year. Until the interruption, the score was tied at 2 to 2 – the trial took place in the 2nd Panel of the STF, composed of 5 justices. Nunes Marques has 90 days to return the case files for analysis by the collegiate.”
There is more.

Dino was applauded by the Supreme Court when he declared that organized crime in Rio de Janeiro is not in the favelas. Perhaps he said this because he managed to calmly go up to the Maré favela, without any resistance, when he was Minister of Public Security.
According to public security expert Roberto Motta, the favela is “the territory chosen by drug traffickers to establish their territorial control. The residents serve as permanent hostages.” And “they are territories dominated by drug traffickers. In Rio alone, there are more than 1,400.” No police officer can freely enter these areas.
The drug traffickers’ control turns the favela population, the vast majority of whom are hard-working and honest, into victims of crime and oppression. Still, for the former Minister of Justice, going to one of these places is a walk in the park...
💬 Why is that? What do you think? The question is not rhetorical, I want to hear your opinion: what explains the minister’s stance? Comment 👇
